Passenger Transportation

Travelling by railway has already and substantially become an integral part of every Belarusian citizen life. On the average about 90 million passenger travel by trains per year.

The passenger railway connection linked Belarus with capitals and regional capitals of Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Kazakhstan and West Europe.

From year to year the transport geography of passenger transportation has constantly being improved. The route network inside the country covers more than 2100 settlements.

The vast amount of passenger transportation is served by a staff of more than 10 thousand employees within the passenger transport industry, which includes:

  • 6 passenger service departments in Minsk, Brest, Gomel, Vitebsk and Baranovichi;
  • Minsk and Brest rolling stock service section;
  • 4 passengers service districts, located in Baranovichi, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk;
  • the main office and 10 line offices for seat distribution and use of them in passenger trains.

Twenty large railway stations with widely developed infrastructure and complexes for passenger services function in the republic.

Ticket booking for passenger trains is completely automated and is carried out by the AMS Express-3. On the Belarusian Railway 684 sets of terminal equipment have been installed, which allow booking tickets in few seconds to any station in any required direction within the borders of Belarus, the states of the Commonwealth of Independent States and states of the Baltic Sea.

International booking offices that sell tickets for long distance trains to the far abroad countries have been opened at the stations of 13 cities.

With the purpose of strengthening the railway transport positions and to enhance the quality of services provided to passengers on the Belarusian Railway, the constant and purposeful work has led to development and effective use of railway infrastructure and technical complex of passenger transportation industry, to create new forms of service.

In 2010 the Belarusian Railway started to implement the project A new concept of passenger transportation as the complex system of measures, intended to effective satisfaction of passengers needs in transport service with the use of new technologies and modern rolling stock.

The project is oriented to the development and improvement of municipal transportation, as well as regional, interregional and international transport links.

Within the project the transportation of passengers by modern rolling track of ЭПГ was organized on the following routes Minsk Pasažyrski–Ždanovičy–Bielaruś and Minsk Pasažyrski–Kaliadzičy–Rudziensk

The following step of the new concept has been the opening of the regular running of regional business-class electric trains of ЭПР series on the routes Minsk—Baranavičy and Minsk—Orša.

The full-scale introduction of the project and planned events implementation will allow increasing the competitiveness of railway passenger transportation in the transport service market, improving the organizational structure of passenger complex, and reaching the new quality level of service.
