The locomotive sector is a major branch within the Belarusian Railway, providing both passenger and freight carriage and shunting rolling stock. Keeping this important sector in good condition in accordance with technical requirements is a major key in ensuring rail traffic safety standards.
The Belarusian Railway pursues high standards in the repair and maintenance policy for her locomotives, which are spread over 17 depots. Together these depots serve a sufficient fleet of locomotives and motorcar rolling stock for freight and passenger transportation within the republic and abroad.
The locomotive depots of Baranavičy, Lida, Viciebsk, Žlobin, Brest, Maladziečna, Ora, Homieĺ and Vaŭkavysk form the main repair and maintenance stations. Each of them is equipped to be a high capacity overhaul base.
The introduction of modern diagnostic equipment and high-tech parts, components and assemblies, enable the Belarusian Railway to efficiently carry out her maintenance program and keep her fleet in good condition. A positive side effect is the modernization of locomotives which is necessary to extend the service life of MVPS.
The Belarusian Railway presently introduces a quality management system which meets the requirements of ISO9001 in the structural subdivisions of her locomotive sector.
The rolling stock improvements policy which is pursued by the locomotive sector department, shows a high level of technical condition of the locomotives in the fleet. As a result a constantly decreasing number of off—schedule repairs can be observed, resulting in reduced operational cost. A team of highly professional locomotive sector assistants is responsible for continuously achieving this goal. In order to execute the main phases of the «National Rail Transport Development Program» of the Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020, as drawn up by the Belarusian Railway, the locomotive sector has a package of tasks that focus on modernization, repair management, overhaul of rolling stock and train safety control. The program provides for implementation of investment projects, which involve a phase-gate traction rolling stock and multiple unit renewal for freight and passenger transportation.
Working out these issues is of great significance for the locomotive sector as a base unit in the rail traffic processing chain, as a good performance of this structural subdivision forms significant quality characteristics for transportation services. Directly related are regularity, reliability, on time (freight) delivery and safety of transportation. These factors play a key role in creating a good image for rail transportation in the transport market.
